Description

Compiled from two rich sources: illustrations from four beautifully produced posters that came out in 1895 as supplements to the New Zealand Times, and supporting text from the 1897 Cyclopedia of New Zealand. The result is a colourful account of late Victorian life in Wellington. Dop May 2009, Wellington 276mmx210mm/48pp hardcover

Author description

Hugh Price, born 1929, was a book publisher for many years. He was manager of Price Milburn, which he founded with his friend Jim Milburn in 1957; and, later, foundation manager of Sydney University Press. Price Milburn published the PM Story Books, many by his wife, Beverley. Last year, with his daughter Susan Price, also a history graduate, he wrote and compiled Old Wellington in Colour. Beverley Randell, born 1931, has been writing for fifty years. With her husband Hugh Price she created the PM Story Books that school children read all around the world. In 1992 she told the story, in A Crowded Thorndon Cottage, of her pioneering great-grandparents. The Randell Cottage Writers Trust now owns and administers the historic cottage that the Price family bought and worked together to restore.
